Week 1 – The Journey Begins

For the Foundation Project, we are tasked with documenting the planning and creation process of a small scale diorama in a 3D workspace such as Autodesk Maya. I have opted out of the Integrated Assessment as I am not studying the module linked with the Integrated Assessment option.

The first week for me was spent learning to use Autodesk Maya and planning out what I wanted my diorama to show as well as looking at reference material to give a better idea of objects scale and colour designs. At this stage I am planning to do a 3D model of a contemporary style house.

I have been using Google Images and Pinterest to gather a mixed collection of reference photos of contemporary house exterior designs and also thinking of a back story for the design and deciding on a game universe where the model would fit.

During the second week I’m planning to create some quick concept drawings in photoshop or Procreate before creating a final design to use as a reference in Maya. At this stage I feel it is important to make sure that my design fits my final idea before I begin work in Autodesk Maya. If the final concept is what I would like it to be, I’m aiming to begin the modelling process by the end of week 2.
