Week 2 started off with me scrapping my previous idea of creating a Contemporary theme house. My major problem with any creative task is that I have too many ideas running around and all fighting for attention. My big task for the Foundation Project will be making sure I don’t waste any more time on scrapping ideas and starting again only to repeat the previous routine.
After taking the time to consider my ideas and how much time I have left to complete the task, I decided that my final model will be based on a contemporary kitchen. I chose this idea because I wanted to create something I would be happy sharing. My previous idea of creating a house felt a little basic to me and I think that if I had continued with this idea, it would have caused problems further down the line.
I have spent the rest of the week doing research on contemporary styles and took a trip to IKEA and Wren Kitchens to get a better understanding of kitchen layouts and contemporary kitchen styles. I have also been looking at traditional style kitchens and taking notes of the key features of both. This will help with my project as the research conducted has given me a better idea of style and scale which has improved my understanding of the contemporary style I want to achieve.
For this to be successful I will need to spend more time looking at references to get a more solid understanding of what I’m trying to create. I will also be collecting relevant textures for my final model and also make sure that the collected textures fit with the contemporary style.
As part of this weeks tutorial session, we were asked to create a Gantt Chart to show our planning for the Foundation Project piece. My chart shows how I plan to spend my time on this project and shows the amount of time I have alloted to each task. The red markers indicate Long Term Goals while the Yellow markers indicate short term goals. The Gantt Chart was created here.

My plan for the remaining 10 weeks is to create a working concept art piece showing the final design from multiple angles and also taking colours and lighting in to consideration. I’m also planning to use The Sims 4 to create a layout reference to give a better understanding of how a kitchen area flows. Due to limitations in the game, I know that I won’t be able to make a pin point accurate reference.
