Week 3 – Given Up

Week 3 has been a difficult one. It’s not unusual during a project for me to hit a point where I temporarily give up on all ideas. Thankfully this seems to have happened at the early stages this time in stead of closer to the deadline as it usually does.

I have spent the third week going back over all of my ideas and trying to figure out if my final model will be of good enough quality.

The idea of a kitchen scene, upon reflection seems a little too basic. To combat this and try to make my final design better, I have been looking more at kitchen decorative pieces which could bring the design to life.

I have also spent more time looking at Maya Tutorials online to help me get a better understanding of the software and hopefully make things a little easier.

I’m currently creating an art piece to represent my final design. The piece will show the main elements of the design and show off the “Stand out” piece of furniture in the kitchen.

Model design overview.

The kitchen design is heavily inspired by the modern/contemporary kitchens displayed at places like Wren Kitchens and IKEA showrooms.

I wanted to create a main focal point in the kitchen design to make it stand out more. During my research, I payed a visit to my local Wren Kitchens showroom.

Upon entering the store I was met by possibly the most eye catching Island Counter I have ever seen. This quickly became the base for my “Stand Out” piece.

The island counter on the “Milano Contour” and the wall piece (pictured above) are the main inspired elements in my design. My personal challenge now is to make sure that my final model is not a direct copy of my reference.

Moving Forward

During my creative slump, I have spent time watching tutorials and speedpaint videos on Youtube. I came across a video titled “Concept Art and Creative Psychology.” The video has helped me a lot and made me look at the creative process more and helped me understand why I keep falling in to this creative slump.

I figured it was a good idea to share this video as it helps a lot when it comes to how you think about your own creativity.

Week 4 Plans

By this point I was hoping to have started modeling my final design. During week 4 I plan to catch up on lost time as well as explore other ideas.
